The AI Middle Way is not a compromise — it is an emergent property. This distinction matters. A compromise splits the difference between two positions. An emergent property is something entirely new that arises from the interaction of existing forces, the way water arises from hydrogen and oxygen but is neither.
This concept draws on Kenneth Boulding's general systems theory, Buddhist dependent origination (pratītyasamutpāda), and what Buddhist psychology calls the "Jealous God Realm" — where the compulsion to compete prevents both superpowers from seeing a cooperative alternative that would benefit them as well. The Middle Way creates the conditions for this emergence.
